The American Association of University Women (AAUW) advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research. The AAUW Educational Foundation was established in 1958 as the philanthropic arm of AAUW. The Foundation is one of the nation’s largest sources of private funding exclusively for educational programs that directly benefit women and girls. Every year the Foundation awards fellowships and grants to over 250 women.In principle and practice, the AAUW Educational Foundation values and seeks diversity

There shall be no barriers to full participation in this organization on the basis of gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or class.

AWARD INFORMATION

Three award levels are available based upon the applicant’s degree program.

· Master’s/Professional Degree fellowships carry a stipend of $18,000 for the fellowship year.

· Doctoral fellowships carry a stipend of $20,000 for the fellowship year.

· Postdoctoral fellowships carry a stipend of $30,000 for the fellowship year.

ELIGIBILITY

Note: The following are not eligible to apply for Foundation awards:

· Previous International Fellowship recipients

· AAUW Educational Foundation and Association boards, committees, panels, task forces, staff, members, and current interns

To be eligible for an International Fellowship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

· Citizenship in a country other than the United States (dual citizenship is not allowed) or possession of a non-immigrant visa if residing in the United States

· Academic degree (earned in the U.S. or abroad) equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree completed by the time of application or by September 1, 2008

· Intention to devote herself full-time to the proposed academic plan during the fellowship year

· Intention to return to her home country to pursue a professional career

· Master’s/Professional and Doctoral applicants must have applied by December 1, 2008, to an accredited institution of study for the period of the fellowship year and must indicate the name of the institution in the International Fellowship application.

· Postdoctoral applicants must provide proof of their doctorate degree and must indicate where they will conduct their research.

· Enrollment in a U.S. institution located in the United States. A limited number of awards are available to other than their own. Note that foreign branches of U.S. institutions are considered outside of the U.S.

· Full year of study or research. International Fellowships do not provide funding for a partial year of study or research. Programs ending prior to April of the fellowship year are not eligible.

· Proficiency in English. Unless the applicant can verify that her native language is English, that she received her secondary diploma or undergraduate degree from an English-speaking institution, or that she will have completed one semester of full-time study in her discipline at an English-speaking college or university by September 1, 2008 (transcript required by postmark date of December 1, 2008, for validation), she must submit a recent score (no older than October 2006) on the International TOEFL* (Test of English as a Foreign Language). Institutional TOEFL scores and other English proficiency test scores (such as IELTS) will not be accepted.

Minimum score acceptable: 550 for paper-based tests; 213 for computer-based tests; 79 for Internetbased tests.

Test scores must be provided in the online application by the December 1, 2008, deadline, and score reports must be received by December 1, 2008. Either originals or copies of score reports may be submitted.

APPLICATION PREPARATION

Applications must be submitted online and supporting documents must be received by December 1, 2008.

Applicants are encouraged to use a postal or courier service that will guarantee delivery of their supporting documents on or before December 1, 2008. Materials received after this date will not be considered. Applications and supporting documents will not be accepted via fax or e-mail.

Note that materials sent to the Washington, D.C., office will be disqualified and will not be reviewed.
